I’ve got lots of story ideas burbling around in my head at the moment but unfortunately nothing seems to be making it onto the page which is a bit of a problem, for a writer. However, I am glad to report work continues on the sitcom. We had a really productive meeting last week although this came with the realisation we will not make our end November deadline. It’s a lot more difficult to write a sitcom than any of us realised. We have faith in our characters and setting, we just need to make it funny and what seems funny in your own head doesn’t always translate onto paper. Anyhow we’ve got a few ideas on how to “funny up” our scenes which, fingers crossed, will help us make the transition into sitcom territory.
Talking of funny, I watched an excellent film last night. It’s not often a film makes me laugh and cry, but this one did. Go seek out “Barney’s Version” (currently available on Sky Premier Films channel), and enjoy the excellent Golden Globe winning performance by Paul Giamatti supported by an excellent performance from Dustin Hoffman (who in my opinion was the real scene stealer). The film is an adaptation of a book by Mordecai Richler (definitely one for my Christmas list) and the script was written by Michael Konyves who won a Writer’s Guild of Canada award for this work.
But don’t take my word for it, watch it for yourself and let me know if you agree.
